CAT Interpretation and Analysis Services

Along with our sister company, GL Assessment , we have developed a series of Interpretation & Analysis Services for the Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT), designed to help schools maximise the use of their CAT data in their learning and teaching. By focusing on the full range of insights afforded through CAT data, the flexible support programme enables customers to choose a level of support that best suits their own specific requirements. The levels of support are as follows:

The CAT Conference

Popular with CAT users for over five years, our CAT conferences are set to continue. Suitable for both new and existing users, these one day regional conferences provide professional development through sharing good practice and offering guidance and practitioner advice on making the most of CAT data.

Designed to broaden the understanding of the range of abilities assessed by the test, our CAT conferences also help to demonstrate how results can be used by teachers, schools and local authorities for key school decision-making and target-setting.

The CAT Seminar

Designed for groups of up to 15 delegates and especially suited to school clusters, federations and academy chains, this seminar is for delegates who are already familiar with the administration of CAT, who are looking for an insight into the analysis of CAT data.

Ideal for use at an INSET day or as a twilight session, the service provides a thorough examination of sample sets of CAT data and reports, offering you additional insight into your own school's data. Attendees also benefit from explanations of statistical terminology and clarification on who should receive your CAT data, when and for what purpose.

Of course, the final agenda for each workshop will vary slightly depending on the specific requirements of the schools attending. However, during a typical workshop, particular focus is given to:

  • the identification of pupils, or groups of pupils, for interventions and/or support
  • explanation of demographic group datasets for school review and development
  • the use of individual profile reports
  • an examination of non-verbal, verbal and quantitative subtest results and the implications of low scores and relative differences
  • indicators of outcomes at Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 and their use in mentoring, target setting and monitoring
  • identification of a pupil's cognitive strengths and weaknesses, exploring possible implications for teaching and learning
  • making initial comparisons with other standardised data sets
  • monitoring change over time and intake ability against national standards
  • setting a baseline for the 'value added' by the school
  • understanding the limitations of statistical analysis and individual factors

We are running a series of CAT seminars this November in Birmingham, London and Manchester - download the booking form for more details and to book your place.

Tailored Services

Our Tailored Services are the ideal choice for schools looking for an even deeper and more strategic level of analysis than is possible through the group session. As part of the service, schools are partnered with a skilled and experienced facilitator who helps you get to the heart of your data, identify the key questions and map out the next steps to address these.

To enable the depth of analysis required, schools must allow their facilitator prior access to their CAT data. Schools can choose from the following options:
